This week’s treasury is called Farmer’s Wife. My mom used to say she would have been a great farmer’s wife. She loves to garden, wanted six kids, bakes up a storm. She really would’ve been at home on a farm.
I live in the city, and I love it. I love walking to places, having restaurants and bars closeby, parks for the kids, being by the lake. But there’s a part of me that wants to have a piece of land, raise goats and chickens, have a huge garden, eat things I’ve grown, teach the kids how to live off the land. I think mainly it’s when I read books to Ingrid about farms.
Some of our favorite farm books are the Milkman, the Little Farm, the Best Time of Day, and the Jolly Barnyard. All of these books show a serene life of baking, watching the kids play, getting the mail, milking the cows, and other simple pleasures. Who knows what real farm life is like, but I’m pretty sure it’s smelly and hard and I wouldn’t like it as much as I romanticize!!
